Corey
Pavin is one of the game’s true superstars.
The former United States Open Champion has amassed an incredible record,
including 25 victories worldwide. These dominant performances have propelled Corey to 24th on the career money list, as well as a 2001 nomination for the Professional Golf Hall of Fame. Corey’s
career began with immediate success after victories in his first five seasons on
tour. In 1988, Pavin entered the
PGA Tour record books following a 72-hole score of 260 at the Texas Open, one of
the five best in tour history. He
also holds the distinction of being the last tour player to win the money title
with less than one million dollars in 1991, earning the coveted Arnold Palmer
award. Corey’s
crowning achievement came in 1995 after capturing the U.S. Open Championship at
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. He
entered the final round three strokes behind leader Greg Norman and recorded an
amazing comeback, embodied by a 228-yard 4-wood shot to the 18th
green, which landed five feet from the hole, a shot that not only gave him the
championship, but will go down as one of the greatest shots in professional golf
history. Earlier
that year, Pavin became only the second player to win back-to-back at famed
Rivera when he successfully defended his Nissan Open title.
Corey has also had tremendous international success as well, winning
eleven tournaments abroad, including back-to-back New Zealand Open Championships
in 1984 and 1985. He captured the
attention of an entire continent by winning the 1995 Asian Masters.
Corey has also represented his native U.S. on three Ryder Cup teams.
