Chris, an Ohio native, began his outstanding amateur career at Normandy High School in Parma, OH. He went on to enjoy success as an Ohio State Buckeye, establishing himself as one of the premier college players in the country. As a junior, Chris won the Kepler Intercollegiate Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. With his victory at the U.S.G.A. Public Links in the summer of 1995, Chris established himself as one of the nation’s best amateurs. This victory enabled Chris to play in the 1996 Masters. Chris built upon this success his senior year, winning the Northern Collegiate Tournament in Columbus. He followed the victory by winning the Red River Taylor Made Collegiate Invitational in Dallas the next week, shooting a final round 64 to capture the tournament. In 1997, Chris earned the Les Bolstad Award for the lowest average in the Big Ten Conference. His success continued, as he led the Buckeyes to a fourth place finish at the NCAA tournament. At the close of his college career, Chris was named second team All-American, an honor that he enjoyed both his senior and sophomore years. Wollmann solidified his position as one of the country’s elite amateurs by qualifying for the 1997 U.S. Open. After completing his degree at Ohio State, Chris has turned professional and is fully exempt on the 2001 Buy.com Tour by virtue of a 68th place finish at the 2000 PGA Tour Qualifying School.
