Anthony Rodriguez began his golfing career at the age of 12. By the time he was
14, he was under the wing of mentor and idol, Senior PGA Star, "Chi
Chi" Rodriguez. With Chi Chi’s support and Anthony’s creed,
"Anything the mind can conceive and believe, can be achieved," Anthony
began to make his mark.
While attending Texas A&M University, Anthony established himself as one of the premier college players in the country. He attained All-American honors his junior year and entered the 1995 Spring season ranked Number 10 in the point standings for the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, awarded annually to college golf’s player of the year. Entering his senior year, Anthony was again a pre-season All-American selection and two-time All-Southwest Conference selection. He is a two-time top amateur at the Texas State Open and a two-time qualifier for the U.S. Amateur Tournament. In addition, he qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual after winning a playoff. Rodriguez is the only Division 1 NCAA player to win 6 major collegiate tournaments in the 1995 season (UNLV Rebel Classic/Windon Classic/Louisiana Classic/Border Olympic Classic/Southwest Conference Championships and tied for 1st in Crown Colony Intercollegiate). Rodriguez is the only Hispanic golfer to ever win the Southwest Conference title and to be named Southwest Conference "Player of the Year." He also holds the unique honor of being the only golfer to win both the San Antonio City Amateur Junior (1990) and Men’s Championship, an accomplishment that he repeated in 1995. In addition, he is the only "Aggie" golfer to ever win more than two tournaments in a year. He was selected by college coaches to join an elite six member golf team, that represented the United States in the Japan International Matches. This invitational tournament in Japan ended his amateur career. Now Anthony, like Chi Chi, is inspiring other Hispanic golfers as they watch him make his way into the professional circuit. Anthony is one step closer to this dream in the fall of 2000 by qualifying for the PGA Tour's Final Stage Qualifying tournament. Visit Precept, proud sponsor of Anthony Rodriguez.
